In 2022, a diverse group united with a vision: creating a safer, more compassionate world. Comprising community organizers, tech enthusiasts, and social workers, they synergized skills to address local needs. Leveraging technology, they streamlined communication and developed innovative solutions. Challenges only fueled their determination, forging a resilient bond. Their impact rippled through communities, fostering positive change. Stories emerged, illustrating tangible results. In the humble beginnings of our journey, we set forth with a vision from a modest facility, armed with nothing but determination and a handful of dedicated volunteers. Despite the constraints of limited resources, our collective strength surged through challenges. From those early days, a ripple effect of positive change emanated within our local community. Every action, no matter how small, contributed to a burgeoning impact. We witnessed the power of unity, as our shared passion for a better tomorrow transformed adversity into opportunity. A distinguished disabled Veteran with an honorable 27-year career as a Chief Warrant Officer Four, Tony is the proud recipient of the Bronze Star and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
Tony's professional journey encompasses a diverse range of skills, including integration of management, project development, coordination, and implementation within a multicultural environment. Throughout his career, he has played a pivotal role in the training and development of upper and mid-management team members, impacting the lives of over 4000 employees. His expertise extends to effective resource utilization, budget development, and managing a budget of $20 million.

Amy B. Cummings, the Treasurer of Open Hearts - Changing Lives, hails proudly from the Lumbee Tribe of NC, embodying the spirit of her heritage. A lifelong resident of Hoke County, she navigates life with a commitment to service deeply rooted in her community.
Amy's educational journey commenced after graduating from Hoke County High School in Raeford, NC. Venturing into healthcare, she completed the CNA continuing education course, earning her CNA licensure in 2000. Amy dedicated three years to Kingswood Nursing Center, where her compassionate care left an indelible mark on the lives of those she served.
Transitioning to the realm of education, Amy took on the role of Assistant Director at Our Father’s Children Daycare and Learning Center from 2005 to 2016. Her dedication extended beyond childcare, encompassing training in the Food and Nutrition program, food preparation, and other essential continuing education courses mandated by the state.
Undeterred in her pursuit of knowledge, Amy earned her associate degree in early childhood education from Stanly Community College in 2012. This laid the foundation for her subsequent achievement – a Bachelor’s in Sociology from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke in 2017.
Amy's community involvement extends to her four-year tenure as an active board member with For Him Christian Ministries. Currently serving as an Adult Medicaid Caseworker III at Cumberland County Department of Social Services, she has achieved three promotions in as many years. Amy's success is a testament to her unwavering commitment to providing exceptional self-service and care to each customer in need.

Currently serving as a Kindergarten teacher with Hoke County Schools for the past three years, Nicole brings a wealth of experience to her role. Prior to this, she honed her teaching skills in Pre-Kindergarten settings in Robeson County, shaping young minds and nurturing their potential.

In 2018, Alberto completed his Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management/Logistics, showcasing his analytical and strategic thinking skills. This academic foundation laid the groundwork for his subsequent professional endeavors.
Alberto's military service is a testament to his unwavering dedication to duty and leadership. Promoted to Sergeant in 2008, he exemplified exceptional leadership qualities, earning the respect of his peers and superiors alike. His commitment to the well-being of his comrades led him to undertake the Combat Lifesaver Course in April 2007, demonstrating his commitment to ensuring the safety and health of those under his command.
Further enhancing his leadership skills, Alberto successfully completed the Junior Resolute Leaders Course in June 2007 and the Warriors Leaders Course in 2010. His pursuit of excellence extended to areas of equality and fairness as he completed the Equal Opportunity Leaders Course in 2015.
In 2015, Alberto received an Honorable Discharge from the Army, concluding a chapter of his life dedicated to service and duty. His military experiences have instilled in him a sense of responsibility and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals from various walks of life.
